cut-flower-garden: year#2
2024 was our garden's 2nd year, so we already had some expectations (prolific Zinnia from seed, huge Cleome).
With expectations comes some disappointment, but overall another very fun year of plans coming to fruition.

july 11 arrangements for employees to take home included knophia, echinacea in double pink, yellow, dark pink, hollyhock, cleome. Baptisia foliage= cool blue-green long lasting vase filler!
I am an incremental gardender and needed a true planner / project manager for our new entry garden: Bowman Gardens! While this garden has no overlap with the cut-flower-garden except for a few plant swaps like me adding wrong Amsonia and more baptisia than specified (more is not better), it's worth sharing some photos and Angela's Instagram link

new Trellis
may 11:backdrop to the garden and a place for vines.
Digging post holes & assembling solo was a fun challenge.

May 31: love trellis, so I added panels 3&4, which was much easier to handle after the first two were up. Industrial buildings in the background added inspiration for the 8ft tall screen. planted: Passionflower Vine, 8x Tomato Plants, Spanish Flag

July 1: vines are climbing. extended planting beds for special daylily, millet, and cleome (cleome was a bust)

Oct.11 Spanish Flag @ 10feet. Tomatoes @ 7feet almost done

Dahlia tubers in May11

Harvesting Dahlia Aug -> Oct

perennials are popping
knopfia - 3 plants last year were stars! so we added 3 more.
plus natives butterfly weed and cardinal flower

Hollyhock-- great in ground with mixed results as cut flowers tried burning the stalk after cut, soaking in bath.
Black Eyed Susan was too much and crowded the false sunflower plants and nearby Dahlia, so in the Fall it was moved to front parkway

echinacea (coneflower) , liatrus, butterfly weed

above
Betony, Lavender bed, mini beebalm, russian sage, veronica

peony, shrubs, tulips
as flower season winding down, some additional beds were added on the parkway. Added Serviceberry and moved the redbud.
Over 300 Tulip Bulbs added between the Summer Pereninal bed:

Redbud transplanted volunteer from home in 2022. By the Spring of 2024 we knew it had to move but it was so pretty blooming but by November it's trunk was over 3" so thanks to Green Garden for moving the rootball was 3foot diameter
